Automatic bounce management

Bounces, such as delivery errors or non-delivery reports (NDRs) must be managed in well-defined ways to comply with sender best practices. Mail service providers (MSPs) and Internet service providers (ISPs) require large senders to strictly adhere to their rules, which are frequently updated. These rules include, for example:

  • Identify bounces for recipient addresses that are disabled
  • Keep track of bounces both across multiple deliveries and over time
  • Correctly parse a range of bounce error messages
    • Update the appropriate dictionaries when an MSP changes its environment and act accordingly

The re-wrapping that SmartRelay carries out ensures that bounces are sent back to Contactlab. They are then automatically classified in our bounce handler subsystems, which are monitored and updated frequently by our deliverability team.
