SMS Message Requirements

To send an SMS using SmartRelay, the message must comply with the following:

  • The message received by SmartRelay must:
    • Be an email message, formatted as plain text only
      • The maximum length of the message body is 160 characters

        Longer messages are truncated when delivered.

      • The message body is converted to the standard GSM Default Alphabet (GSM 03.38)

        The conversion of characters not available in this standard cannot be determined.

    • Conform with the supported email requirements

  • The From: address must be in the format: <sender>@sms.from.contactlab.it

    <sender> is used as the SMS sender alias and must be:

    • A valid international phone number

      Starting with + or 00, followed by the country code, the area code and the local number.

    or:

    • An alphanumeric string

      Maximum 11 characters. Longer strings are truncated.

  • The To: address must be in the format: <msisdn>@sms.to.contactlab.it

    <msisdn> is used as the recipient alias and must be:

    • A valid international phone number

      Starting with + or 00, followed by the country code, the area code and the local number.

Note:

  • The Subject header in the email message is ignored
  • Tracking and Unsubscribe services are not supported
  • The current release does not support suppression list matching

SmartRelay does not enforce any specific restrictions on the sender alias by default. You should ensure that you comply with any applicable regulations. You can configure SmartRelay to enforce sender validation, using predetermined From domain checking. See Preconfigured From domains for more details.
